Our Facilities

The original buildings of our School date back to the 1960s, but have since been extensively modernised.  We completed a £10 million new build project in 2009 that increased the size of the School and our range of facilities extensively. We now offer a large campus which includes interactive whiteboard  equipped classrooms classrooms, 7 dedicated ICT suites, separate Science and Technology blocks, extensive sports facilities, an Assembly Hall, Chapel and a new dining hall.

ICT 

The whole school is networked for ICT. Students have open access to computers, the school Intranet and Internet. We have 7 ICT suites as well as 2 Study Rooms in the Sixth Form. All suites are air-conditioned. Additionally, we have Chromebook trolleys with wireless access in many of our rooms. One of the suites is a specialist Music Technology Room containing the latest Apple Mac computers where students are able to produce their own music.

Science Department

Our Science Block is a cornerstone of our school's commitment to academic excellence in the sciences. It houses a total of 12 specialised teaching laboratories, each meticulously designed and equipped with modern tools and resources tailored for Biology, Chemistry, and Physics disciplines. These labs not only facilitate theoretical learning but also prioritise practical, hands-on experimentation, allowing students to engage deeply with scientific concepts and methodologies. From advanced microscopes and equipment in Biology, to precise chemical analysis tools in Chemistry, and comprehensive physics apparatus for experiments in motion, electricity, and optics, our facilities are crafted to inspire scientific enquiry and discovery. This environment fosters a rich learning experience where students can develop critical thinking skills, conduct research, and collaborate on projects that explore the frontiers of scientific knowledge.

Design and Technology Department 

The Art, Design and Technology Department purpose built facilities houses a vast array of modern and traditional manufacturing tool and machinery. Our spacious workshops are fully equipped with the latest CAD and CAM equipment including an large laser cutter,  two 3D printers and a CNC engraver. The department contains a 2 suits of PC’s, this alongside our use of both 2d and 3D industry standard computer aided design software allows learners to follow their designs from idea to final outcome utilising current modern manufacturing methods.

Our workshops provide our learners with access to traditional manufacturing methods still used in many industries, including the use of a Centre Lathe, Milling Machine, Wood Turning Lathe and brazing/ metal casting facilities. These along with all standard and specialist hand tools allows learners to gain experience in a vast array of manufacturing methods, taking a hands-on approach from the moment they enter the school. 

Sports 

We have a state-of-the-art Sports Hall, one of the finest facilities in the borough. This spacious hall accommodates four badminton courts and a full-sized basketball court, complete with an electronic timer and scoreboard. Our extensive outdoor sports field supports football, rugby, and hockey in the winter, and transforms into a venue for cricket and athletics in the summer, featuring our own 400m track. Additionally, we offer three outdoor tennis courts, a separate gymnasium, and a dedicated weights room equipped with multigym apparatus. These exceptional facilities provide students with numerous opportunities to engage in a variety of physical activities and sports throughout the year.

 

Canteen

Our school canteen is a modern and hygienic facility designed to provide students with nutritious and delicious meals in a comfortable setting. The canteen offers a diverse menu that caters to various dietary needs and preferences, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and allergy-friendly options, ensuring all students can enjoy their meals safely.  The dining area is spacious and well-ventilated, with ample seating arranged to encourage social interaction while maintaining a pleasant atmosphere. With its commitment to quality, variety, and sustainability, our school canteen plays a crucial role in supporting the overall well-being and development of our students.

Music studio 

Our school's music studio is a vibrant hub for creativity and musical expression, equipped with a large number of Macs loaded with cutting-edge music production software. This state-of-the-art facility provides students with the tools they need to compose, edit, and produce high-quality music. The studio features multiple recording booths and performance spaces, allowing for both solo and group recordings in a professional setting. Whether students are aspiring musicians, vocalists, or sound engineers, they have access to the latest technology and equipment to hone their skills. The studio’s design encourages collaboration and innovation, offering a dynamic environment where students can explore their musical talents, work on original compositions, and prepare for live performances. Hall and Chapel

Our chapel has recently been renovated, and we are very grateful to the Greig Trusts for their generosity in supporting the recent renovations of the hall and chapel.

The assembly hall is used for School productions and events and uniquely, we are very lucky to have a large pipe organ that was recovered from a church in Morecambe and used for recitals.

Library

Our school library is a vibrant and welcoming space designed to foster a love for reading and learning among students. Equipped with a vast collection of books spanning various genres and academic levels, the library caters to diverse interests and educational needs. It features a chromebook trolley with high-speed internet access, providing students with valuable resources for research and homework. The library also includes comfortable reading areas, quiet study zones, and collaborative workspaces, encouraging both individual study and group projects. Additionally, our library is staffed by knowledgeable and friendly staff who offer guidance on book selection, research assistance, and information literacy skills. Regularly scheduled clubs and lessons further enhance the learning experience, making the library an integral part of our school's educational environment
