Year 12 BTEC Business – Level 3 (Edexcel) From September 2016

The BTEC Business courses is worth 1, 2 or 3 A-Levels depending on whether it is taken as a single, double or triple option. It has been designed to give students a ‘hands on’ and practical approach to learning Business Studies. The course is assessed through coursework, tasks and an exam.

 

The course will cover most aspects of how businesses are run and managed. Successful students will be organised, independent learners who are prepared to spend a lot of time researching topics and businesses.

Assessments held throughout Year 12 and Year 13:

Regular assessments through coursework, written assignments, time constrained assignments and examinations. Students will receive the following grades for each unit: Pass, Merit or Distinction.

 

In coursework units students will:

  • write up the findings of their own research
  • use case studies to explore complex or unfamiliar situations
  • carry out projects for which they have choice over the direction and outcomes
  • demonstrate practical and technical skills using appropriate presentations and role plays

In the externally-assessed exam unit student will:

  • take the same assessment at the same time under exam conditions

In the externally-assessed task units student will:

  • carry out research and prepare for the set tasks, then take the assessment during a defined window and demonstrate understanding through completion of a set task.
