Safer Internet Day 2019 – ’Together for a better Internet’

Dear Parents/ Carers,#

Last Tuesday 5th February 2019 was Safer Internet Day and throughout the week we encouraged our students to engage with the advice and support offered by ‘UK Safer Internet Centre’ and ‘ThinkUKnow’ (Child Exploitation Online Protection).

These organisations also provide advice and support for parents and carers in terms of safer internet use and greater awareness of safety when using social media. Their websites provide excellent information and activities for parents which are very easy to access and use.

The main theme of 2019’s Safer Internet Day was consent in the digital world and therefore an opportunity for parents and carers to offer support in how young people tackle digital consent within relationships and friendships as well as how online services use the data we provide.

The ‘ThinkUKnow’ website provides sound advice on how to notice and deal with a range of issues such as exploitation, inappropriate image sharing and online safety. We highly recommend that parents and carers engage with this information and use it with their children.

Please also feel free to contact the school if you would like any further information regarding safer internet use.
Kind regards.
Mr G Lyle,
Deputy Headteacher
