Please see an update from the Borough Athletics Last Wednesday….

The sun was shining all day long to make the conditions for the 2018 Borough Athletics pretty difficult for all the competitors, however some of our Bishops Athletes has some outstanding individual performances that must be noted.

Nana B in yr7 came away with two medals, silver and bronze in the 200m and 4x100m relay; Davina flew down the home straight to win Gold in the 100m and bronze in the 4x100m relay along with Kashaya and Williette who also won gold in her hurdles event! Gesile in Yr9 won bronze in 100m sprint, but unfortunately there was too much work for her to do in the final straight of her relay to gain a medal.

We had strong relay performances throughout with the yr9 boys bring back and bronze medal (Jayden G, Ikenna, Denzel & Rehum) and an astounding performance from the Yr10 boys in the Senior relay (yes they were competing against Yr11 and sixth form) where they brought home the gold medals with an excellent lead (Tyrell, Nana B, Elliot & Abiodun)

The Yr10 performed extremely well with Tyrell winning gold in 200m, Elliot winning gold in the 400m (and racing the relay almost straight after!) and Abiodun taking home three medals- along with his relay, he took a gold in the long jump and bronze in the 100m. The boys came third overall in the senior boys competition.

It wasn’t just the sprints we performed well in, Leonardo in yr7 narrowly missed out on Gold in the 1500m, Naska in Yr10 narrowly missed out on silver in the 1500m, Paul in yr9 got silver in the triple jump and Omillio yr7 picked up a bronze in the Javelin.

Overall there were lots of 4th/5th finishes across the track and field events which meant that within the mixed school competition we came a worthy 6th with 209 points!

Please congratulate all of the students that took part yesterday in such harsh conditions. They were a credit to the school and their families.

I’d like to say Thank you to the staff who supported throughout the event also, Mr Smyth for the minibus runs he did at the start and end of the day, Mr Egembah for supporting throughout the day, Mr Collings for acting as a track judge and Mr Lodge for working on the hurdles all day in the beaming sun. A special thank you to some of our sixth form leaders that assisted and made sure everything ran smoothly, Eloise, Nathaniel, Amira, Sanjay and Aaliyah. And finally to Caroline for putting up with my many emails about team changes and contacting parents with information about the day!
