Following our OfSTED inspection, I am delighted to be able to tell you that we have been judged overall as a “Good” school! In addition inspectors have found that the behaviour of our students in and around school and in lessons is outstanding.
Our students are confident, intelligent, polite, well mannered and incredibly articulate. One student, commenting on teachers, said “they just don’t give up on you. They always make time to help us with your work”. Another said “I will remember the care that everyone gives you and how blessed I am”.
Inspectors commented on the “significant improvements since the last inspection and that “systems for monitoring student’s progress [are] strong and improving”. Regarding behaviour, the report states that “there have been particularly effective steps taken recently to improve behaviour. As a result students’ attitude to others and to their learning are outstanding”. The Inspectors also commented that incidents of bullying of all types are rare and that students are clear that “bullying just isn’t tolerated in the school”. Students reported to the Inspectors that they know who to go to if they have any problems, and they said that they will get the help that they need. Students “trust that the school will keep them safe and greatly appreciate the fact that staff escort them out of school to their buses”.
Our 6th Form is also good with “strong capacity for further improvement…sixth form leaders show the same high expectations and ambition evident in 6th Form students themselves. There is a culture of “no excuses for students or staff” where “teaching is engaging and effective. Teachers have good subject knowledge and challenge learners. Students are focused and determined. They apply themselves consistently”.
Attached to this letter is a copy of the report for you to read. I hope that this makes you feel as proud of Bishop Stopford’s School as a parent as I do as Headteacher, and have felt since I started here two years ago.
