KS3 Curriculum Structure

KS3 Curriculum structure

Curriculum Structure 2019 onwards

In order to ensure that students experience a broad and diverse range of subjects we have reverted to a 3 year KS3, with students choosing their option subjects in the Spring term of Year 9. The curriculum is designed to allow students to gain the knowledge and skills that they will need to be successful as they progress into KS4.

We follow a 2 week timetable consisting of 50 1 hour periods. The distribution of hours to each subject is shown below.

In Year 7 students are taught in mixed ability tutor groups for the majority of their lessons, but will be assessed during the first half term and pupil groupings altered to facilitate delivery in Maths and English. A similar pattern is followed in Year 8 with the exception of Science which will also be delivered in groups based on ability.

Throughout KS3 students will have access to a range of Technology subjects which they will access on a rotation, during the course of the year they will study; Art, Engineering and Food Technology.

Information about what is delivered in each subject, assessment and how you can support your child can be found in the department curriculum booklets, or the Year Curriculum booklet.
