Bishop Peter Wheatley, the Bishop of Edmonton, retired from service in style on Sunday 25th January by leading a service at St Paul’s Cathedral in honour of his ministry. St Paul’s was packed as members of churches from Enfield, Haringey, Camden and Barnet joined together to give thanks.
The School Choir from Bishop Stopford’s School contributed to the service by performing as the Cathedral filled up. Mr Seabrook, Assistant Headteacher at Bishop Stopford’s said ‘It is a real honour for the choir to be part of this celebration. Bishop Peter has been a termly visitor at our School and we will miss him greatly.’
The choir, lead by Karen Gibson, performed for 30 minutes as the Cathedral filled up with over 2000 people enjoying their songs.
Bishop Stopford’s School was recently graded a ‘Good’ School in the January Ofsted inspection.
One member of the congregation from St Mary’s Enfield said.
‘It was wonderful to see the pupils singing their hearts out, they really helped make this a special occasion for Bishop Peter.’
